Stede G. Nilsen has particular expertise in construction law, environmental law, property law and general contract law and regularly litigates cases before the courts.
Within construction law in recent years, Nilsen has worked with several major court cases, onshore as well as offshore. He has assisted public authorities and private individuals, both from the builders’ and contractors’ perspective. Within environmental law and real estate, Nilsen has assisted in several cases concerning claims for price reduction/compensation as a result of ground contamination at the point of purchase. He he has also assisted with assessing the potential liability for contaminated sites where property has been leased out over time to different parties.
Nilsen has further particular expertise in tenancy law, ground lease for industrial purposes, and development and building law, where over several years he has assisted a variety of clients with contract negotiations, contract drafting and litigation before the courts. He has also advised several professional property developers on issues from initiating the regulatory process under the Norwegian Planning and Building Act and the Norwegian Public Administration Act, to completed construction and dispute resolution with contractors and buyers.
Within the field of general contract law, Nilsen has, for several years, assisted various private parties in the automobile industry with dispute resolution and review and drafting of standard agreements in relation to both the manufacturer and retailer, and with regard to the successive changes in public law.
From his time as a university fellow with teaching obligations in contract law, sales law and property law, Nilsen has gained a thorough and broad expertise in contract law and law of torts. From his time as a vice chairman of the Market Council for Consumer Disputes (Consumer Disputes Commission), he gained a particular insight into consumer law issues, including the Norwegian Housing Construction Act for consumer contracts.
Nilsen is a regular lecturer on subjects within his areas of expertise. During his time as a university fellow he provided extended teaching at state universities (free education) in various parts of Norway. He was the editor and worked on the preparation of the database tool Ea§yfind Eiendom, and has experience as an examiner and supervisor for dissertation writing at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Law.
